Safeguard the Privilege of Citizen Voting. Write Your Clerk with Simple Steps to Take.

by Elizabeth Dallam Ayoub and Janine Iyer | July 22, 2024

Last week 198 Democrats voted against voter registrants having to show proof of citizenship in order to cast a ballot. Why?

Asylum seekers who enter the United States may apply for and receive a social security number. The card states that the SSN number is for DHS purposes only, but registrants who apply online to vote are required only to input the last four numbers and attest to their citizenship. Registrants aren’t required to show their cards bearing the printed limitations. Why?

The United States Constitution provides the right and privilege of voting to citizens only. Citizens elect their representatives to federal offices, specifically the U.S. Senate, House of Representatives, and President of the United States.

To protect this constitutional right and limit voting to United States citizens only, America First Legal sent a letter to all 50 states, advising them how they can enforce the law and prevent non-citizens from voting in our elections.

If you are concerned about election integrity and recognize that patriotism and freedom require our time and energy to preserve, Pure Integrity Michigan Elections urges you to send your township and county clerks the letter below crafted by Janine Iyer, Livingston County leader:

Dear Clerk [Insert Name],

With the influx of millions of foreigners into our nation and with Michigan the fourth highest state where non-citizens are settling, residents are concerned that non-citizens are being registered to vote at local SOS offices and elsewhere.

America First Legal (AFL) has examined the law and explained the following laws in a June 24th press release. Law 8 U.S.C. §1373(c) references what is now the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and 8 U.S.C. §1644 provides the right to states and localities to submit a request to the Department of Homeland Security “to obtain the citizenship or immigration status of any individual for any purpose authorized by law.” Federal law also mandates that the DHS “shall respond” to such a request. Plus, states and localities cannot be prohibited or restricted from receiving the requested information.

Michigan law also grants you, the hard-working clerk, the power and duty to make a full investigation of the facts concerning a voter’s registration.

If a township or city clerk has knowledge that there is a probable illegal or fraudulent registration in the township or city, or in any ward or precinct of the township or city, the clerk has the power and duty to make a full investigation of the facts concerning the registration and to ascertain whether any name has been illegally or fraudulently registered.  --MCL 168.520

If you, as a local clerk, suspect that a voter registrant is a non-citizen, you may set up an account here to obtain non-citizen information. (https://www.uscis.gov/file-online/how-to-create-a-uscis-online-account)

I am writing to alert you to this serious issue and to share this important information to help you to ensure that only U.S. citizens vote in our upcoming elections.

Thank you for all of the work you do for election integrity. We the People are grateful, and I would appreciate any feedback you may provide.

Sincerely,

AFL letter to all 50 states:

Every United States citizen should be concerned that not every representative voted for the law that would make it a penalty for someone who is not a United States citizen to vote in a federal election. Every United States citizen should be concerned about how Michigan’s online voter registration process appears to open a hole in the security of this country.

Patriots fought hard to preserve a citizen’s right to vote. Some died. Others were maimed for life. As more and more immigrants seek the freedom and safety of this greatest nation on Earth, they must first attain citizenship before gaining the legal right to register and vote.

Please help protect the sacred right to vote. Pure Integrity Michigan Elections urges you to write and send the letter above to your local clerk.
