Estimating the Damage. What’s the number? How many non-citizens are registered to vote?

A public policy research institute is claiming up to 27% of illegal immigrants may be registered to vote in the 2024 Presidential election.

Published in May, the Just Facts study found “roughly 10-27% of [non-citizens] are registered to vote,” about 5-13% will cast ballots in November and the majority of those votes will be for Democrats.

Just Facts took those conclusions and offered the following assessment.

“Given the estimates above and the fact that more than 20 million non-citizen adults live in the U.S., roughly 1 million to 2.7 million of them will illegally vote in 2024 unless stronger election integrity measures are implemented. This could easily overturn the will of the American people in close major elections.”

The findings amplify the need for proof of citizen at the time of voter registration.

Study’s Lower Estimate Confirmed in North Carolina

Not surprisingly, Just Facts’ estimates have been disputed. But in a July post on X, Mike Howell, executive director of the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, drew attention to a Muckraker.com investigation that appears to confirm Just Facts’ findings.

Muckraker.com CEO Anthony Rubin’s team identified a Charlotte, North Carolina, apartment complex with primarily non-citizen residents.

Investigators videotaped the interviews in which they asked residents two questions: Are you registered to vote, and are you a citizen? After interviewing 41 non-citizens, four (10%) admitted to being registered, a finding that tracks with the lower estimates Just Facts projected.

In 2020, 19 foreign nationals were charged in North Carolina federal court with voter fraud after voting in the 2016 election. The individuals came from all over the world: Guatemala, Malaysia, Mexico, Nigeria, and Yemen, for example.

Priming the Pump

Before illegal migrants even cross the border, activist nonprofits are priming them to vote illegally – and not just to vote, but to vote for President Biden.

A now-defunct U.S. nonprofit -- Asylum Seeker Network of Support, based in Brownsville, Texas, and headed by U.S. citizen Gabriela Zavala – came under fire for posting notices at encampments urging migrants, “Recordatorio para votar por el presidente Biden cuando estes en estados unidos.” Translated, the message read, “Reminder to vote for President Biden when you are in the United States.”

The notice also included a graphic element at the bottom of the notice for emphasis, “Todos con Biden,” or “Everyone with Biden.”

Once again, the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project broke the explosive story with a video post that racked up 9.7 million views. Video footage shows the notices posted in port-a-potties (IN: 0:39).

Mainstream media outlets responded in force and wrote stories (here, here) in support of Zavala, who claimed she had nothing to do with the notices, even though her name was featured prominently.

The Oversight Project fired back uncovering bad reporting from the New York Times and the NPR reporter’s former ties to ACORN, the discredited nonprofit outed during the first Obama campaign.

Posters on X were outraged. Patrick Gibbs wrote, “ALL NGOS GOT TO GO!!!!!!”

Krista Railey said, “This is election interference and the reason why Federal voter ID is necessary. No drop boxes, no state issued driver’s licenses. 1 vote, 1 ID, in person except for military. And to the NGOs that are responsible for promoting election fraud …[meme] ARREST THEM!”

In response to the story, others suggested the flyers were a fraud, concocted to smear a well-intentioned nonprofit.

Take Action

Michigan Fair Elections founder Patrice Johnson is urging people to print copies of the flyer and send them to their U.S. Senators. A printable flyer can be downloaded here. The House recently passed legislation (the SAVE Act) requiring proof of citizenship at the time of registration. The Senate has yet to vote on its version of the bill.

“We know illegal immigrants are registering to vote and casting ballots. The best solution is requiring proof of citizenship at the time of registration,” Johnson said.
