Soles to the Roles Team: Making an Impact.

August 26, Texas Governor Greg Abbott made headlines with his report that Texas had removed 1 million ineligible voters from the state’s voter rolls.

Across the nation, there are numerous groups that are quietly and diligently working to remove ineligible voters from their state’s voter rolls. MFE’s Soles to the Rolls Team is one of those groups.

The Soles2Rolls Deployment Team - 230+ members strong - is on the ground helping local clerks clean Michigan’s Qualified Voter File, and helping keep it clean. They are getting results. Following, is a summary of their achievements and activities in August.

August 25 Report

Voter Roll Clean Up

  • For clean-up, the Team used Check My Vote (CMV) data and prioritized the top 4 counties that represent more than half of Michigan’s registered voters.

  • 1,041 ineligible registrations have been removed from the voter rolls by local clerks. Using CMV, the Soles2Rolls team has flagged 16,735 suspect voter roll entries in Oakland County: 12,845 of those are in the process of being reviewed by canvassers and clerks (Triage). 729 Oakland registrations were challenged with local clerks.

Volunteer Support and Recruitment

  • The number of Souls2Rolls active volunteers continues to increase. The month of August can boast 236 active volunteers!

  • The Program Coordinator, conducts weekly “Coffee Hours” for training “newbies & oldies”.

  • The "Recruit A Buddy" program has launched to help grow the statewide Souls2Rolls volunteer team. A new graphic was created that volunteers can share to help educate and attract peers, friends, and family.

New Initiatives

  • The Souls2Rolls team is collaborating with MFE in launching a "moved-out-of-state" voter education campaign to show moved persons how to cancel their Michigan registrations. The campaign will utilize mail, phone calls, and text messaging.

  • Verifying registrations of voters aged 90 or more, is a time-consuming and

laborious process - approximately 4,000 of those registrations need verifying in the City of Detroit alone. A new project has been launched to enlist volunteers from non-profit civic community groups to assist with researching and confirming the registrations of deceased individuals.

  • Adopt a Clerk Program. This program will lend support to local clerks in order to assist them in restoring fair and accurate voter rolls. A handbook has been created to educate clerks on Michigan Election Law 2024. This was in response to SOS Benson's pattern of issuing inaccurate and false guides to election clerks. Armed with knowledge of Michigan election laws, clerks can fulfill their responsibilities with confidence.

  • The Souls2Rolls team is collaborating with MFE on the launch of “Only Citizens Vote.”, a statewide awareness campaign to protect noncitizens from committing felonies by registering to vote.
